2017 Anyone??
« on: November 30, 2016, 10:16:15 am »
Is there anyone doing anything for 2017 yet? I would love to get together with other believers who are into ADV riding and am struggling to find anything going on in 2017. I'm in Grand Junction, CO lots of great riding very close to me but haven't yet found other Christians to ride with.

Welcome Benjamin!  Check out Grace Moto Adventures, they are a good group of guys and closely associated to Christian ADV Rider.  They usually have several things going on each year.
http://www.gracemotoadv.com/

I attended their Chama Camp meeting in 2014 and had a lot of fun.  I rode through Grand Junction on the way back home to California and stopped at a recommended place called Old World Meat Market to get jerky.  Good stuff!  Too bad you weren't on the forum back then or we could have met and had coffee or something.

I can't wait to go back to Colorado!

Maybe send them an email through the "Contact Us" link so that they are aware of you and keep you in mind.

I think you have a long wait for the Colorado high-country snow to melt!   :o

Why don't you tell us a little more about yourself?  And let me know if you ever get out to California

Hope springs eternal for the melting of snow!! Haha

I'm Ben, I ride a 2012 Super Tenere. I love to be in the high country of CO even if my off road abilities are sub par. I try to ride year round when the road conditions cooperate. I haven't ever ridden in CA. I took my daughters and my wife to Disney Land a few years ago but have never had my motorcycle there. I wouldn't mind trying the whole lane splitting experience though!

2012 Super Tenere    now I'm all ears.
Hi Benjamin
I ride a Blue 2012 Tenere.  148,000 miles
I ride all over the country and have been through G.J. many times.
I just rode through your area last late Sept. on my way to Zion Canyon Super Tenere rally.
We rode west of Gateway on the John Brown Canyon road to Moab.
You can read about it here.
http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=20590.0

Hope we meet on a ride some day.
Steve

Funny you mention the Tenere Rally. On Oct 8th I met TwoLukes on I 15 between StGeorge, UT and Mesquite, NV. I was in the process of completing my first "Iron Butt" a SS1000 (From GJ to Vegas and back) I think we were both surprised to see another Tenere on the road!! Anyway, he encouraged me to come to the rally (wherever it is) in 2017. I will make every effort to be there depending on where it is. That's one of the reasons I'm looking to see what is happening in 2017. Between two beautiful little girls and work I won't be able to stay gone for too long on the bike so I want to make the most of the time I do get.
Anytime any of you find yourselves in Grand Junction I'd be happy to meet up and possibly show you around. The best part about living here is that the riding is amazing whether it's paved or off-road and it's all very close.

Have you seen my ride report over on the Tenere site about riding to the Rally?
You can read it here.
http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=20590.0

Do you ride trail bikes at Moab?
I will be out there with my son and some of his friends next spring.
They ride the toughest stuff they can find so I might ride more old man friendly trails.
You can read last years Moab ride here.

I am trying to get someone to set up the 2017 Super Tenere Rally in a scenic area, I seen you posted on that thread over on the Tenere site.

You would be a good guy to set up the 2017 rally in your area. [Moab] maybe Sept. would be cooled down out there.

TwoLukes.  A great Christian guy

I have checked out your ride reports on the Tenere forum! First of all I've been camping in moab since I was a kid (jeeps). I'm not sure I'm talented enough on two wheels to ride offroad in Moab. Besides lacking in ability the only bike I own is a Tenere and while I can pick up my Tenere I'm not sure I could pick it up all day. It has a severe problem with narcolepsy...

To your other point about setting up a rally. I am not opposed to doing this, I am a little ignorant to what I would need ie: insurance or things of that nature. I could find a venue and possibly secure some sponsors. I'm not the guy who can lead rides, I have a lot of enthusiasm about riding but, my skills are sub par. It's difficult to transfer jeeping skills to two wheels. haha

The other question is this. Would it be a christian rally or a tenere rally??

Benjamin
It's the Super Tenere national rally that I have been pushing for someone to get it set up and dates set as soon as possible.
TwoLukes pretty much took charge of last years rally and was the leader on the rides.
I think the main thing is getting a camp ground set up with a group site discount  that has a eating room where everyone can meet and dine.
If you are interested in setting things up you should talk to Jaxon "TOBASCO" over on YST.com
He has set up three of the national rallys.

New guy from Alabama here.  Just found the forum today.

I have a V-Strom 650 and am looking to plan my trip schedule for the year.  I have Mitas E07s on the bike and am interested in as much trail/dirt road as is reasonable for a 450lb bike with ~6.5" of ground clearance.  I have my own backpacking gear so I'm good with camping the whole time.

My son and I just got back from a 4 day trip on the Natchez Trace.  (A very tame route, but pleasant.)

I'm interested in 3-4 day rides in the southeast, as well as planning a longer trip to meet a few guys out west for a few days of riding.  I guess I can't add photos until hit a certain number of posts.

He is too young to have his own bike, so he rides pillion for now.  I don't see where I can post pics yet, but you can see pics on Stromtroopers.

Loved your Natchez Trace trip report.  Great photos!  I'll read your Alaska trip e n v i o u s l y with my wife.  How many miles do you have on your S10?  How much does your wife like riding with you?  Mine still needs a lot of encouragement.

I guess my login on Stormtrooper doesn't work anymore so I can't even see your pictures over there.

I have 151,000 on the Tenere now.
Wife loves riding with me.
We rode to Yellowstone [XS1100] in 1980 on our honeymoon and lots of big trips through the years.
Did you see this ride to Alaska with her?
