any thumper guys here
« on: May 09, 2015, 09:15:29 pm »
current thumper is a 2006 DR650SE, previous; KLR650, BMWF650GS (single)
I started with the KLR, sold the KLR after buying a wrecked BMWF650GS and finally traded up to the DR650, I say that because the DR is more my style, lighter more dirt oriented... no more hard cases either. Any how looking for other thumper pilots

anyhow - is there any possibility of getting a thumper section as well as a Canadian section

Not a thumper pilot, but considering adding or moving to one.  I ride a VStrom and it gets heavy on harder offroad and sand  :o

We could use a little reorganization.  I'm just one of the moderators, but my thoughts are that since we are a smaller group, less segregation is better.  I'm inclined to take the make/model forums and merge/separate into "Thumpers" and "Multi-Cylinders" (needs a better name).

As far as a Canadian section, we probably could do that if you REALLY want one.  But me personally, I would enjoy reading about your exploits, so I would read them in whatever section they are posted.  Can you try using the more general sections for now and see how it works?

BTW, if you REALLY want that Canadian section, you will need to post a video of you in your favorite hockey jersey singing "O Canada"!  Hehehe, just kidding   ;D

all good on a singles forum / heck share the KLR if they're good with it -  Canada section might appeal to some of us up here - we need something as we're far away and spread out from all y'all and it might get some interest.

Hey Willy!

I replied on your welcome thread.

Also ride a thumper (KTM 690) - and in fact, visit Alberta every once in a while on business / family vacations (was there last week, and will be back again in July).

My personal view on forum structure is the complexity should be in proportion to the volume of content.   Also, factoring in unique content types that benefit from segregation.

To that end, I'd propose keeping the bike types separate - like is done now with KLR and V-Strom.  Add the common types available in North America (DR650, DRZ400, XR650L, Yamaha Tenere, etc.  BMW could be split into BMW twins and BMW singles, ditto with KTM, although there are not a lot us with those types, so maybe not required.

Issues to do with these types (KLR doohickeyes, DRZ air boxes, KTM 690 EFI maps, etc. ) are very type-specific, and to the extent that good boards are good reference materials, then having them all under one giant "thumper" or "multi" thread would effectively lose them, without lots of searching / parsing.  Thumpertalk does this well, as does Advrider with their BMW twins and KTM twins sections.  On thumpers, though, Advrider has type-specific "megathreads", but not formally structured, so unless you subscribe, it's a pain to find them.  Their thumper section is no where near as tight as Thumpertalk's.

On the geographic splits, I'd lean toward not.  I enjoy reading ride reports and such from all over, and the main premise being all part of Christ's body worldwide, it kind of runs against the grain a bit to split out the regions.  I get though, the idea of "I want to find a riding buddy in ABCville, anyone around there?" .

I'd also maybe cluster the faith threads (keeping them distinct as they are) but under a larger heading "eg:  Everyday Christian Living" with the Prayer, etc. threads under that.

Just some thoughts.

In Him,

Daniel

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast.   For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Eph. 2. 8-10

I'm  an "anything" rider.  I have a big twin, big single 4st and little single 2st.   Since we are talking thumpers at the moment I have an old 1998 KTM 620 RXCe.  I like it pretty well but I made the mistake of riding dad's 690 and that is a beast of a dual sport.  It can't hang with my beemer on the paved stuff but gravel and dirt it's sick fun.  My RXC is currently in need of a clutch though, once I do that I may find its power delivery to be more to my liking once again.  I was riding it tonight and I'm very certain I was dealing with alot of clutch slip.

Willy, I just added the Canada forum.  Enjoy!
