Thanks Rob.  The DRZ was a lot of fun.

If I had room for a second bike, I'd go for a lighter/smaller bike, and one like your WR would do just nice.  Maybe we can trade bikes for a few km when I visit in a few months (can't wait, btw!!).

Gotta say, that is an interesting looking motorcycle. Have not noticed one of those before...Is is reasonably light?

Depends upon what you consider to be reasonable.  They are about 320 from the factory.  They have a pretty heavy muffler you can ditch but I don't think I'm bellow 300 still.  They are well suspended for their day and age, had great torque and are a good deal on the used market.  They do vibrate pretty bad if you're doing much slab but on the gravel you don't notice it.

I'm feelin ya on that.  The capable big adventure bikes are loads of fun.  I haven't put many miles on any of my other bikes because the GS does it all so well except single track dirt.  And it's a pleasure on any connecting pavement.  I always say if I could only own one bike it would be my GS.

That can looks like a rocket launcher!  Paint it olive drab and stencil some letters on it and you would get some strange double-takes.

👍😜👍 it's very throaty when the throttle is cranked open, it sounds a lot like  my Staintune did on my F650GS.

Ktm 690? .. rode one last year at Mid ohio vintage days... at low rpm the vibes were so so.. when you got to 5500 and above, the mirrors were useless... the Pirelli tires stock were a large source of the vibration...the stock seat was horrible.. after 20 minutes my butt was sore and numb at the same time...read an oil thread on one on BITOG.. 690's shear oil down fast...15w50 or 20w50 and 3500 miles tops if using top of the line synthetic...less preferably.
rode a BMW f800gs this year...much nicer... 100 pounds plus heavier... a little vibration, stock seat was decent .. some bar end weights and another windscreen and it would be nice... weight was carried low... stood up on it and went slow... easy to ride...klr's or cb500 X rally raid still looking possible...have not ridden either one of those yet...
